Faculty of Law: Junto incorporation team at the 2022 NIW

Junto is an electric glass crusher developed to solve the problem of glass waste disposal. Scientific research has shown that glass takes a million years to decompose, and this is a major threat to the environment. However, Junto exploits the infinite recyclable nature of glass to create a solution. It crushes glass bottles to glass powder, which is the main byproduct. This byproduct is used to manufacture various products including glass tiles, countertops and fibreglass. It can also be mixed with sand and used in construction.

This innovation is the brainchild of 4 third-year students from the faculty; Jesse Watanga, kelvin Mwangi, Abner Khuzwayo and Virginia Waringa. The students showcased this innovation during the 2022 Nairobi innovation from26th-28th April 2022.

“We are proud to declare that our product is compliant with the 1997 Kyoto Protocol that aims to phase out Ozone Depleting Substances. Our target market includes the construction industry, bars, hotels, restaurants, homes, Airbnb services and the hospitality industry in general,” noted the members

The team noted the website that is still in the works, accessible at Wall-E.cf. This website, in conjunction with an app that is also in the development stage, will act as an all-in-one recycling hub for the new emission-free world we envision.

The aim of this innovation is to shift from the centralized model of recycling to a more decentralized setup where individuals and small groups can effectively recycle their waste, much like Apple and Microsoft helped to make computers mainstream.

Welcome to the future.
